About
I Am Juan Stemmet, a Western Cape Drifter
My name is Juan Stemmet. I am a 28-year-old professional drifter from Western Cape, South Africa. I have been drifting since the age of 18. I started drifting with friends for fun at the track in my street car in 2012. I have made my way up to being one of the best drivers in my region with many fans and supporters. My drift car is no longer a street car, it is a well presented, professional race car. I participate in a TV series called Razor Customs AKA Drift Outlaws and have had the privilege to compete and represent South Africa in the FIA Intercontinental Drift Cup in Tokyo, Japan in 2019. I also take part in drift events throughout the year such as Bragging Rights, Streetfest and Streetmania. This year I competed in Red Bull Car Park Drift as well as joined for ‘Kuruman’s Easter Spin Bash’ and ‘Cape Town comes to Botswana’ where I did a drift demo for the crowd.
I am a real go-getter and dream big. When I do things I do it properly. I give it my all, all the time. I like to be different than all the other people surrounding me, which drives me to achieving all my goals. I have a take no non-sense type of attitude which helps me in life when it comes to my drifting career. I love a challenge. I am also up for helping others where I can, anytime.

What is Drifting?
Drifting is a driving technique where the driver intentionally oversteers, with loss of traction, while maintaining control and driving the car through the entirety of a corner. The technique causes the rear slip angle to exceed the front slip angle to such an extent that often the front wheels are pointing in the opposite direction to the turn (e.g. car is turning left, wheels are pointed right or vice versa, also known as opposite lock or counter-steering). Drifting is traditionally done by clutch kicking (where the clutch is rapidly disengaged and re-engaged with the intention of upsetting the grip of the rear wheels), then intentionally oversteering and countersteering. This sense of drift is not to be confused with the four wheel drift, a classic cornering technique established in Grand Prix and sports car racing.
